Carpets can transform any space and make it more welcoming. This flooring option will been around for more years than we can count, yet, we don’t see it going out of style anytime soon.

Covering large, regularly used areas with carpets is one way to save effort when cleaning.

Another myth that revolves around carpets is that they are “difficult to clean.” However, hard surfaces need a more thorough cleaning: wiping, sweeping with brooms, etc.

Carpet can be easily cleaned in a few minutes with a simple vacuum cleaner and without chemicals.

Full stair carpets or a stair runner carpet?
A runner is an excellent way of updating your staircase.

As well as all-over carpet, a modern stair runner is a great way to transform a simple staircase.

Essentially, a stair runner is fitted to the middle of your staircase, leaving some wood visible on either side of each step, while with fully carpeted options, the entire steps are covered.

‘A stairway is often the first thing your guests see as they step inside your home and can completely set the tone for your personal interior style. Fully carpeted stairs project a feeling of opulence, while a stair runner will add wow factor.’

Full Stair Carpets or a Stair Runner Carpet Explained

Here at LJL Carpets and flooring we will discuss all the options on how your stair runner will look completed before we put a knife to carpet as there is a few different ways to finish a stair runner depending on your stair type and how its finished.

When you’re ready to install carpet on stairs, you have a choice between two installation styles waterfall and hollywood.

What’s the Difference Between Waterfall and Hollywood Stair Runners?

Waterfall Stair Runners

Just as the name ‘waterfall’ suggests, this installation method cascades the carpet down each step, creating a waterfall effect.

Essentially, the carpet is attached to the edge of the tread (the flat part of the step) and goes straight down the riser to the next step or tread, without being secured to the riser.

This style is more casual. It’s also more commonly used than the Hollywood method. It’s ideal for striped or patterned carpets as the pattern runs much more smoothly down the stairs.

Hollywood Stair Runners

The second stair runner installation style is known as Hollywood. In the case of the Hollywood method, rather than cascade down the tread the carpet wraps tightly around the front edge of it and is then stapled under the stair nose. The end result is tailored, professional-looking, and elegant.

In fact, it’s often used for the most visible stairways in a home. The Hollywood installation is also known as the French Cap method and the upholstered method. This style takes longer to install than the waterfall method, and also requires more carpet.

Carpets work wonders on stairs, providing soft and spongy comfort underfoot. Whether you want to make a design statement or prefer a pared-back neutral look, or you’ve set your heart on a grey stair carpet over a patterned one, we’ve got stylish suggestions to suit every interior style and budget.

Don’t forget, you can find the perfect stair carpet from our exclusive ranges at LJL Carpets and flooring for a design that’s both hardwearing and practical.
